New Honorary Presidents elected
At the Annual General Meeting held in May, Colin Christophers and David Heasman were appointed as Honorary Presidents of the Ayrshire Cattle Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Together with the current Honorary President, John Hunter, they will hold this title for life and retain the right to participate in and vote at Council meetings.
Colin Christophers joined the organisation in 1973 and commenced the registration of the Rosehill Ayrshire herd in Cornwall in 1980. Over the course of his career, he has developed several distinguished cow families and introduced numerous bulls into artificial insemination programs. Notably, Rosehill Back Velour EX96 7E LP80 became the first purebred EX96 female in the UK under his stewardship. Colin has acted as a judge at both local and national levels across the UK, as well as in various herd competitions. In addition, Colin and his family have hosted multiple ACS conferences, including the World Conference. He served as President of the Ayrshire Cattle Society from 2013 to 2014, and has previously held roles such as Breed Development Chairman, Vice Publicity Convenor, World Federation Representative, and Council Member. Currently, Colin continues to serve on the Ayrshire Council and is a valued member of the Breed Heritage Committee.
David Heasman served as President of the organisation from 1997 to 1998 and has rendered significant service to Ayrshire Council over many years. Since the 1960s, he has been actively involved in registering and milking Ayrshires and is the breeder responsible for Pylon Ayrshires. Alongside his late wife Jeanne, David committed considerable time to advancing youth engagement within the industry by facilitating educational opportunities for Oathall Community College members and consistently promoting the Ayrshire breed. He played an instrumental role in developing several distinguished cow families and notable individuals, including Pylon Easled EX95 6E LP100 6 stars, who was acquired by the Window family at Hunnington at his Conference sale, and subsequently became an influential presence in the breed. David has also participated in international World Ayrshire conferences, representing the United Kingdom in Canada during his tenure as Vice President.
