Quality Ayrshires Sold At National Ayrshire Sale
3rd November 2016
The eighth National Ayrshire sale to be held at Borderway, Carlisle featured animals from many of the leading herds in UK, and included outstanding heifers in-milk, bulls and in-calf heifers. Trade topped at 3,200 gns twice with £1447 average, slightly up on the year for an almost 100% clearance. It is worth mentioning that the quality on offer was superb - heifers giving 30 kgs with amazing udders certainly looked tremendous value when compared with lesser quality animals sold in recent weeks.
The event was sponsored by Almins and the show was judged by Steve Baliey from the Beeline Ayrshire herd in Cheshire. His Overall Champion went to Cuthill Towers Madison Tot (Sire: Cuthill Towers Madison) consigned by A & S Lawrie from Fife, Scotland. This close to perfect uddered heifer was bred from two very good dams, and was giving 29 kgs. She sold for 1,680 gns to A & R Paton, Easter Greenhill, Falkirk.
The Reserve Champion went to the same herd this time for Cuthill Towers Elpaso Lady. She was sired by Cuthill Towers Elpaso from their well known Lady cow family, and sold for the top price female on the day for 1,780 gns to A & R Paton, Easter Greenhill, Falkirk.
The trade for bulls was once again slightly up on the year averaging £2025 with two bulls selling for a top price of 3.200 gns. The first bull to hit the top was Priestland Supersonic consigned by the McLean family from Bushmills, N.Ireland. He was the Champion bull, sired by Palmyra Reality Gibbs and bred from Marleycote Sea Lily 14 EX 94 2E who has been undefeated in the show ring in 2016 winning seven times along with a number of interbreed titles. This super long stylish bull was purchased by D & C Sanderson Thackthwaite Hall, Wigton.
Equalling the top price was Horseclose Verve consigned by JA McGarva, Horseclose Farm, Annan. He was sired by Woodland View Paddy and bred from three generations of Excellent cows. Verve was purchased by John Barbour, Machribeg Farm, Campbeltown
Commenting on the event following the sale auctioneer Glyn Lucas said “...the quality on offer today has been exceptional and a real credit to the Ayrshire breeders from across the UK who have consigned their very best. The National sale continues to be a special event in the Ayrshire calendar, and a great event to promote the Ayrshire breed”.
