A fantastic day at Marleycote Ayrshires

A judging seminar was recently held at Marleycote Walls, Slaley, Northumberland, home of the Baynes family. Competitors and visitors witnessed an impeccably presented display of quality high yielding Ayrshire heifers. Some breeders travelled from as far as Stranraer and Derbyshire and it was also a pleasure to welcome our friends from Sweden, breeders Klas Johansson and Anja Dalhog.

Two classes of six heifers were presented by Richard Baynes and his huge team of helpers for the official event where judges placed both classes in their preferred order and gave reasons on one of the classes under a consensus scoring system. A third class of six heifers were presented for a separate sweepstake competition which was judged by local breeder Paul Harrison. The winner of the sweepstake was Matthew Service.

We were delighted with the standard from the judges attending and they must be commended on their attitude, positivity and professionalism. Thirteen judges scored over 80% with eight of those excelling at over 90%, and a further two reaching the qualifying score.

The work that Richard Baynes, his family and his helpers contributed to the event was evident which made the day so successful, and this was all very much appreciated by everyone. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to them all for their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the day.
