Marleycote Sea Lily 14 Wins Balmoral Show

A good number of quality Ayrshires were put before this year’s judge, Geraint Thomas from Llanelli, South Wales. Proceedings were soon under way with the maiden heifers, and after inspection by Geraint, Ardmore Orphan 117 from John Hunter, the Reserve Champion at the 2014 ABAB was pulled into first place, over Christian Keenan’s Threemile Pam, for her balance throughout. It was then the turn of Stuart and Nyree Baxter to take the win in the milking heifer class, Erne Magenta was given the advantage, over Robert McConnell’s Beechmount Peggy 5, for her style on parade and udder qualities. John Hunter won the next two classes, the dry cows with Ardmore Cowslip 91 and then the junior cow with Ardmore Janet 100. The senior cow class was an absolute spectacle and a great promotion for the breed, with superb cows all the way down the line. Winning the class was the McLean family with the very popular Marleycote Sea Lily 14 EX 93, who judge Geraint Thomas clearly admired for her overall strength and power with balance throughout and a superb mammary system. Second in the class was the very correct Cuthill Towers Pam 30 from Christian Keenan, this cow, only a week fresh, was also admired by many. It was these two senior cows who went on to be breed champion and reserve. Well done to all for a great show.
