Coloured Breeds Sale At Beeston

Tuesday 15th April saw the Spring Coloured Breeds Sale take place at Beeston Castle Auction and a great entry of 144 was received with vendors travelling far and wide to sell their animals. Breeds represented were: Ayrshires, Red & Whites, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorns and Jerseys.
Milkers were the flavour of the day and certainly at the top of the shopping list by buyers who were eager to secure the right type of animal which was milking well and showing all of the right credentials. 32 different buyers were recorded.
AYRSHIRES
57 animals were sold in this section and some wonderful lots were sold for vendors of repute. The milking animals were in keen demand. The day's leading price for this section was 2500 gns for Gwynnog Napier Julia (GP 83-2yr), a daughter by Ardmore Crown Napier, calved at the end of March. This super young cow was yielding 35 kgs daily and consigned by G R Thomas, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire who had some top drawer animals on offer. Julia was purchased by B J Rodenhurst & Son, Farlow, Kidderminster who made some astute purchases and took back a handsome load of 10 animals - including the next top price at 2250 gns for lot 44 Troutbeck Romeo Mary, sired by Cuthill Towers Romeo, giving 45.3 kgs consigned by F J & M Mattinson & Sons, Wigton, Cumbria who sold 24 tremendous animals in total from their quality Troutbeck herd. It was this same good home that produced the next price at 2050 gns for Troutbeck Retinue Celandine sold producing 33 kgs to F & N Brunt & Sons, Moddershall, Staffordshire.
The in-calf heifers sold to a more moderate trade it must be said, with some particular great heifers on offer. It was the Mattinson family which took 1700 gns for Troutbeck Lilac Blossom 7 who was purchased by a local farmer. Also selling in this in calf section were Halliwell Farms Ltd who offered a good selection of heifers from their Keysmount herd from Blackford, Carlisle.

RED & WHITES:
Five Red & White Holsteins sold, all from D A Howie & Sons, Morpeth, Northumberland. These were super animals and the top price was for Morwick Cruella ET, a daughter of Huybens Red Devil, a daughter from the highly regarded Morwick Sand Queen (Ex-96-2E). This the final daughter from the great cow was purchased by L Davidson & Sons, Halmyre, Haugh of Urr, Castle Douglas for 2500 gns. Another great heifer from this home Morwick Carmano Marshawn Red who was giving 33.4 kgs daily was secured by Messrs S N Bailey & Partners, Audlem.
