Flying Trade For Ayrshires With A 4000 Gns Top For The Hunnington Herd At Beeston Coloured Dairy Breeds Sale

The Annual Sale of Coloured Breed Dairy Cattle at Beeston Castle took place on Friday, 2nd August at Beeston Castle Auction, in front of a large audience of keen purchasers, who had travelled from many parts of the country.

Trade was exceptionally good throughout and particularly for the Ayrshires who were dominated by a major consignment of milking heifers, served heifers, and maidens from the famous Hunnington herd of Chris and Lisa Window, Bromsgrove, West Midlands.

The top price was 4000 gns for Hunnington Sailor Girl 135, a daughter of Dudley Wood Baldrick bred from four generations of dams classified Very Good or Excellent.  She was seven weeks calved and sold giving 30 kgs daily. The purchaser was Robert Adams, Ford, Shrewsbury. The second highest priced heifer was Hunnington Easled 11, a daughter of Hunnington Admiral and the only daughter of the 120 tonne production Pylon Easled (LP100) (Ex95‐6E) 3* ever to be sold. This beautiful heifer who is a maternal sister to the proven sire Hunnington Mandella, sold for 3200 gns and now joins the Willhome herd of Philip Williams and family at Leweston, Nr. Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. The next top milking heifer was Hunnington Naomi, again sired by Dudley Wood Baldrick and out of a Pylon dam sold just over two weeks calved for 2500 gns to P M & L Harris & Son, Alkmonton, Ashbourne who were the sales volume buyers taking a total of 21 head.

The milking heifers from Hunnington averaged £2607.00 and the maiden heifers and calves £1700.13. The Windows had a great sale all through with their calves topping out at 3400 gns forHunnington Monica 76, a daughter of Mandella out of a VG Admiral dam.  This exceptional calf who has great show potential was the choice of keen young breeder, Stuart Rimmer of Ormskirk, Lancashire. Hunnington Naomi 3, a November 2012 daughter of Admiral and maternal sister to the 2500 gns Naomi heifer already mentioned sold for 2450 gns to Robert Adams buying for his Bigginvale herd. At just 50 gns less at 2400 gns was the October 2011 bulling heifer Hunnington Astral Maid 2 another daughter of Dudley Wood Baldrick selling to Geraint Thomas of Llanelli for his Gwynnog herd again in South Wales.

Messrs G R White of Ilam, Nr Ashbourne sold a cracking consignment of eleven autumn calving heifers from their Castern herd. Their top price of 2400 gns was for Castern Viola 48, a daughter of Bigginvale Destination due in early November and purchased by Messrs Harris. They also soldCastern Lorna 11, by the homebred Castern Thunder for 2300 gns, selling to an undisclosed West Wales breeder.  Messrs White’s eleven heifers had the fantastic average of £2112.41.

The sale concluded with the bulls of which four of the five entered found new homes; the top seller was Hunnington Fantastic bred from five generations of VG/EX dams from the Fragrance family. He sold for 2000 gns to join Ian Patrick’s Garrett Hall herd at Tyldesley, Manchester. The second top selling bull was Islandpride Bellman by Ardmore Crown Napier from Richard and Trevor Lloyd, Anglesey selling to David Gibson, Buxton.
